James 3:13–18

Four characteristics of Wisdom:

I. Wisdom Is Practical (James 3:13)

• Wisdom is demonstrated by a good life.
• Actions reveal true wisdom.
• Wisdom is applied knowledge, not merely accumulated knowledge.
• Key Thought: Wisdom is seen in the way we live.

II. Wisdom Is Humble (James 3:13)

• True wisdom is marked by humility, gentleness, and meekness.
• Biblical meekness is power under control.
• Humility uses influence to serve rather than dominate.
• Key Thought: The wise person leads with strength under control.

III. Wisdom Is Spiritual (James 3:14–17)

• James contrasts earthly wisdom with heavenly wisdom.
• Earthly wisdom is driven by envy and selfish ambition.
• Heavenly wisdom comes from God and begins with the fear of the Lord.
• Key Thought: The source of our wisdom determines the direction of our lives.

IV. Wisdom Is Fruitful (James 3:17–18)

Heavenly wisdom produces:

• Purity
• Peace
• Consideration (Gentleness)
• Submission (Reasonableness)
• Mercy
• Good Fruit
• Impartiality
• Sincerity
• Peacemaking
• Key Thought: True wisdom always produces visible spiritual fruit.

Ask Yourself:

• What kind of wisdom is shaping my life?
• Am I relying on the wisdom of the world or the wisdom that comes from God?
• Does my life display the fruit of heavenly wisdom?

Application: MM

This week, before responding to a difficult situation, making an important decision, or speaking into a tense conversation, pause and pray James 1:5: "Lord, give me Your wisdom." Let your life demonstrate wisdom that is practical, humble, spiritual, and fruitful.
